What is the difference between the HORL® 3 Walnut and the HORL® 3 Cruise?
While both models feature 15° and 20° sharpening angles, the HORL® 3 Walnut is built as an open, modular system. It features the HORL® Quick Lock system, allowing you to twist off and swap the standard discs for higher-grit premium accessory stones. It is also hand-crafted from premium natural solid wood, whereas the Cruise is made from recycled ocean plastic and has permanently fixed discs.
How do the 15° and 20° sharpening angles differ?
The dual-angle system allows you to adapt to any knife type in your home. Use the 15° angle to achieve an ultra-fine, razor-sharp edge on high-hardness steels like delicate Japanese knives, carbon steel, or Damascus blades. Use the 20° angle for a sturdy, durable edge perfect for everyday tasks on classic European chef’s knives, utility knives, and outdoor gear.
Do I need to use water or oils when sharpening with the HORL® 3?
No. Unlike traditional whetstones which require a 15-minute soak and create messy puddles, all HORL® sharpeners are engineered strictly for dry grinding. Because the rolling mechanism generates no significant heat friction, you get flawless results instantly without water or oil.
How long do the Diamond Grinding discs last and how do I clean them?
The pre-installed Block Diamond disc is extremely durable and designed to last for years of home kitchen use. When it's brand new, it will feel intentionally coarse, but it smooths out into its optimal, long-term sharpening texture after about 20 uses. To clean away fine metal residue from either the diamond or ceramic disc, simply rub them with a standard pencil eraser or wash them with water and a small brush (remember to dry the wood completely immediately after!).
