The pack contains three types of oak wood cut to sizes that fit the Karu 16 fuel tray, along with natural wood wool firelighters to assist ignition: 13 cm (5 inch) oak logs for building the initial fire (approximately 25% of the box), 10 cm (4 inch) oak chunks for maintaining the fire (approximately 25%), and 20 cm (8 inch) oak logs for sustaining the burn during cooking (approximately 50%). All oak pieces are sustainably sourced and kiln dried to a moisture content of 15 to 20 percent, which supports faster ignition and more efficient, consistent combustion. Boxed weight is approximately 11 kg (24.2 lbs). This pack is not compatible with the Ooni Karu 12 or Karu 12G, as the larger wood pieces are sized for the Karu 16 fuel tray only.

HOW DOES THIS COMPARE TO USING CHARCOAL IN THE OONI KARU 16?

Both wood and charcoal are compatible fuel options for the Karu 16, but they produce different results. Wood fuel, such as the oak in this pack, burns with a flame that rises into the oven chamber, directly heating the dome and contributing a subtle smoky flavour to pizzas. Charcoal burns as embers rather than a flame, producing consistent, high heat with less visible fire, and a milder flavour profile. Wood requires more active management during cooking, as logs need to be added regularly to maintain temperature, whereas charcoal tends to hold heat with less intervention. The choice between the two comes down primarily to flavour preference and how hands-on you want the cooking process to be.

WHAT DO I NEED TO BUY SEPARATELY TO START USING THIS PRODUCT?

This pack includes everything needed to ignite and fuel the fire: firelighters, kindling-sized oak logs, and larger oak pieces. The only additional requirement is a compatible Ooni Karu 16 or Karu 2 Pro pizza oven. No separate firelighters or kindling are needed for your first cook.

WILL THIS WOOD PACK WORK IN THE OONI KARU 12 OR KARU 12G?

No. The wood pieces in this pack are sized to fit the fuel tray of the Karu 16 and Karu 2 Pro only. The larger 20 cm and 10 cm oak pieces will not fit the smaller fuel tray of the Karu 12 or Karu 12G.
